Through a quality programme of Careers Education and Guidance, The St Lawrence Academy aims to support students to develop their personal and social knowledge and skills and is designed to prepare students for the opportunities, experiences and responsibilities of adult life.  All students are entitled to impartial, confidential and expert advice about their choice of education, training and work.  They should be helped to understand the importance of equal opportunities in working life and recognise the risks of stereotyping and discrimination.

The Senior Middle Leader who leads on careers has responsibility for oversight of the IAG Programme.  Careers information, advice and guidance is largely delivered through Raising Aspirations Days. During these days, and through additional events such as Mock Results Days and Consultation Evenings, students have the opportunity to explore post 16 provision and Careers pathways with many further/higher education establishments, employers, and companies which offer employment based training.

Careers orientated assemblies, individual tutorials and action planning interviews, group work and additional special events for students and their parents take place throughout the year, in particular to support students at transition stages, such as towards the end of Key Stages 3 and 4.

The St Lawrence Academy also works collaboratively with North Lincolnshire Careers IAG Team to provide an integrated programme of careers education and guidance and will provide opportunities for students to have:

  1. A planned programme of careers education
  1. Access to information
  1. Individual Career Action Plans
  1. Careers guidance at points of transition, ‘including individual careers interviews for all Key Stage 4 students
  1. Experience of the world of work including Work Experience, enterprise activities etc.
