Key Stage 3

Students in Sets 1 to 4 will have two lessons per week and students in Sets 5 and 6 will have one lesson per week. The KS3 course is an introduction to the fascinating world of foreign languages using the Studio and Viva courses for French and Spanish respectively.

The school has a system whereby on alternate years, Year 7 students will study either French or Spanish. They will then continue the study of the same language in subsequent years.

SOME IDEAS FOR EXTENDED SUPPORT AT HOME:

  • Test students on new vocabulary
  • Encourage them to respond in French/Spanish at home, even if you are speaking in English
  • Encourage siblings to practise their languages together
  • Consider allowing students to take part in school trips abroad or to arrange trips as a family
  • Use the internet for language games
  • For French, sign up to the French penpal programme (Mrs Demaude will give you details)
  • From Year 8, talk to your child about GCSEs
