KS4 Curriculum

KS4 Curriculum (Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11)

The academy has the expectation that all students are capable of achieving the National Standard  in  English and Mathematics and demonstrate a high level of achievement in at least 8 subjects. To enable students to be successful they will have the opportunity to personalise their curriculum through flexible grouping in the core and a variety of pathways in the options. To ensure the maximum choice the academy will work with the local colleges and providers to give students access to an increased range of qualifications and experiences.

The academy core curriculum will operate as follows:

2019-2020

In Year 11, 18 hours of core subjects with 8 hours a week allocated to options. There are 4 option groups of subjects and each option subject is allocated 2 hours of curriculum time for the 3 years of KS4.
The core curriculum consists of:

English    – 5 lessons                      Physical Education   –  2 lessons

Maths      – 4 lessons                      Religious Education –  2 lessons

Science   – 4 lessons                      Character – 1 lesson

In Year 10, 17 hours of core subjects with 9 hours a week allocated to options. There are 3 option groups of subjects and each option subject is allocated 3 hours of curriculum time for the 3 years of KS4.
The core curriculum consists of:

English    – 4 lessons                      Physical Education   –  2 lessons

Maths      – 4 lessons                      Religious Education –  2 lessons

Science   – 4 lessons                      Character – 1 lesson

In Year 9, 17 hours of core subjects with 8 hours a week allocated to options. There are 3 option groups of subjects and each option subject is allocated 2 hours of curriculum time in Year 9 and 3 hours of curriculum time in Year 10 and Year 11. In Year 9, our students commence their KS4 journey with the options process and an exciting Enrichment Programme which is designed to build and bring together the skills and knowledge gained from the earlier KS3 curriculum in an ambitious and cumulative way, ensuring all learners receive the knowledge, cultural capital and skills they will require to succeed at the next stage of learning and in later life. Our Enrichment Programme extends beyond the academic, technical or vocational, and ensures students develop more broadly, discovering their own interests and talents.
